Clear Scans!

Writer: Lori Beth RicheyLori Beth Richey

Friday, January 10th

All of Avery's testing and procedures for the week are complete. Her CT scans on Wednesday were clear showing no signs of potential infection. She had a little nausea and tiredness from the anesthesia, but otherwise she did great! We also heard back that her EKG and echo looked good as well. They allowed Avery to come home with her port accessed each night this week which helped alleviate a lot of the anxiety and stress as we came to the hospital each day.

We were admitted yesterday afternoon in preparation for scans today. Avery woke up at 4:15 am yesterday morning, so she took a much needed nap at the hospital after a much anticipate meltdown(changing her NG dressing). She slept through the entire night and didn't wake once. They cut off her feeds at midnight and started IV fluids in preparation for anesthesia again today.

We were nervous about today's scans. It has been 4 weeks since her last scans and 2 months since her last chemo treatment. Medullablastoma(as are most childhood cancers) is extremely aggressive and is known to grow/spread quickly. After a long 4+ hours of scans, LP, recovery, and waiting, we were so thankful and relieved to hear that her MRIs were still clear, and her spinal fluid was negative for cancerous cells. This gives us a little reassurance as we move into the next phase of treatment.

We are still scheduled to be admitted on Wednesday for Avery to get her central line placed and begin the next phase of treatment.

Please continue to pray for:

- Avery's anxiety and fear

- Safety and protection from chemo side effects

- Avery's complete healing

- All of the other families fighting childhood cancer

Prayer is a powerful thing, and we serve an awesome God! I am so happy for this good news for Avery! I pray for all that you mentioned, and more; I pray that you and Shon continue to have the courage to help her face the future procedures. I cannot imagine the worry, stress, and sick inside feelings you have constantly! I pray too for grandparents and for the sweet twins who are at home. I know that when anyone has cancer, the entire family has cancer! Sending love to you all, and please keep updates coming as you have time.

Praising God through happy tears for this precious child. God is definitely answering prayers. Prayers will continue for Avery and your family. Praying specifically for Avery’s anxiety and fears to be minimal, for protection from chemo side effects, for complete healing and for all the children dealing with cancer. Continue asking God and believing for a Miracle for Avery.
