Wednesday, February 3rd
Avery had a clinic appointment this morning. She did great getting her vitals and port accessed. She was so excited to finally hit her 50lb weight goal(which earns her a gallon of slime)!
Her labs were much improved from last week. Most importantly, her platelets made it up to 90. They were still not as high as they needed to be to begin the full regimen of chemo, but in the interest of getting her back in active treatment, she began with 2 of the 3 chemos. Her modified schedule will now look like:
Day 1 - Irinotecan and Avastin
Day 15 - Irinotecan and Avastin
Days 15-19 - Temozolomide
Repeat cycle after Day 28
Despite the positive start to the day, Avery's anxiety/PTSD kicked in as soon as it was time to begin receiving the chemo. This made next 3 hours challenging for all of us. Luckily she(we) made it through without any major issues or side effects.
She will begin a 5 day antibiotic course tonight to protect her from the delayed chemo-induced diarrhea that often occurs when receiving irinotecan. She perked up a little bit once we were home, but she was quickly hit with her first episode of vomiting. We are hoping it was an isolated incident and can be kept under control with scheduled Zofran.
We will return to clinic next Wednesday to receive her monthly IV Pentamidine and to check counts.

Please continue to pray for:
- Minimal or easily managed side effects
- No fevers, infections, or illnesses
- Effectiveness of treatment
- Increased energy
