Wednesday, February 17th
Avery continued to deal with intermittent nausea and stomach cramping the past week, although her energy and overall demeanor seem to be on the rebound.
She went to clinic on Wednesday (2/17). Her labs all looked good and remained mostly stable from the previous week. Due to her platelet and white count numbers, they decided to delay the Temozolomide for another 2 weeks. She did awesome in clinic overall and was much more relaxed this time around(especially given we were there over 6 hrs).
She received her Irinotecan and Avastin chemos as planned. We tried something different to help with the nausea this go round. They gave IV Aprepitant and a 2mg dose of IV Dexamethasone prior to her receiving the chemo. She still dealt with flushness, cramping and nausea while receiving the meds. By the time we were headed home though, the steroid had really started to kick in. She felt great and was a live wire the rest of the day...it was the best she has felt in a while!
We will continue to give 1mg of oral Dexamethasone for a couple of days to keep the nausea at bay. We took a gamble and dropped the Cefdinir since Avery seems to be one of the rare people not to have diarrhea from the Irinotecan. We are hoping this helps eliminate some of the cramping . So far things seem to be working as we have passed the 24hr mark with no vomiting and minimal cramping.
Since her counts didn't plummet after the last round , we don't have to go back to clinic for 2 weeks(March 3rd). The goal is to start the Temozolomide(at a reduced dose) in addition to the Irinotecan and Avastin at our next visit.
Please continue to pray for:
- No nausea/vomiting
- No stomach cramps
- Protection from illness and infections
- Improvement or stability of her April 5th scans
