Avery’s counts were finally recovered enough that we were admitted to begin Cycle 3 today. This is the last round of chemo before she has scans to check her response.
Since she turned 6, her chemo doses are now given based on her body surface area as oppossed to her weight. Since she is tall, this means she could receive 15-20% more per dose than the first two rounds. While this could be positive in regards to killing the cancer, it can also lead to harsher side effects. They have upped her maintenance fluids to 125mL/hr to try and flush the medicines out of her system more quickly.
We have a new antiemetic plan in place to combat nausea and vomiting this cycle. She started with a dose of Aloxi today, followed by Olanzapine each night and scheduled Benadryl every 6 hrs. We have Ativan and Phenergan as needed if the others fail. These are all highly sedative meds, so we expect her to be sleeping a lot the next few days.
She received her Vincristine and Cisplatin today to start off this cycle. The Cisplatin is typically the culprit for all of the vomiting as well as hearing damage.
Avery’s day was once again made by a visit from Buddy the dog!

Please continue to pray for:
- No nausea or vomiting
- No hearing damage
- Rest and recovery
- Clean scans and LP as the end of the cycle
