Day 11 - Cycle 3

Saturday, November 16th

Avery is still a very sick little girl showing no improvements from yesterday. She spiked a fever of 101.8 during the middle of the night and has continued with fever up to 102.3 throughout the day. Her cultures are still showing no growth which helps rule out a bacterial infection. She will continue on the antibiotics Cefepime and Vancomycin until she is fever free for a certain period of time.

Her labs showed that her platelets were still low, so she received another transfusion today. Her magnesium is still not staying up, so in addition to a daily mag bolus, they are upping her oral mag to 3 times a day. Her ANC is still zero.

She vomited 3 times today. Given all the drainage and mucous she is experiencing, it is difficult to tell if the vomiting is from the chemo or the mucositis. She is still in a great deal of pain. There are sores in her mouth, and her throat is extremely sore and swollen. Even the vibrations in her throat from pushing meds in her NG tube elicit cries and pain. We started her on morphine every 4 hours to control the pain, but I believe we will need to increase to every 3 hours tomorrow as she is not getting enough relief.

She spent 95% of the day in and out of sleep. She has no energy, and feels just plain terrible.
