Day 12 - Cycle 2

Writer: Lori Beth RicheyLori Beth Richey

Sunday, October 13th

Our first night back was really rough. Feeling bad while receiving chemo and feeling bad while neutropenic are two totally different things! Avery was irritated, in pain, and hated the world. We both got very little sleep. She continued to run a fever of around 101.5 on and off through the night.

Her platelets and blood counts were low this morning, so she needed a transfusion of both. Her mucositis in her mouth and throat are causing her a lot of pain, so they ordered a very small dose of morphine to be given every 4 hours. We are keeping her on IV fluids only until tomorrow, and then we will try to slowly start her feeds back.

She spent the majority of the day catching up on sleep and playing the iPad when she felt up to it. The morphine provided just enough relief that she seemed to only have medium discomfort through the day as opposed to the pain that she was having. Towards the end of the day she talked a little more and even tried to eat some mini marshmallows(although even those hurt).

We will mark today as a "good" day because we were able to manage her symptoms pretty well. It's heartbreaking that our "good" days in the world of childhood cancer are equivalent to some people's worst days out in the regular world. We will continue to take it one day at a time though and give thanks for the small wins.

Please continue to pray for:

- No more fever

- ANC to begin rising(which will help clear the mucositis)

- Minimal pain that can be managed with medicine

- That she tolerates adding her feeds back so she can start getting the proper nutrition

Praying for sweet Avery and everything above that you have ask us to pray for. I am still praying for Gods healing touch. Also, praying for all of you.

Prayers for all that you have asked for especially for you and Avery to feel all the prayers that are going up for you and this precious little girl. She is such a fighter. And that is what it will take for her to beat this awful stuff. Try to get some sleep when she does. Much easier said than done. Love, hugs, and continuing prayers.

God, we cannot begin to understand any of this but we know that you love precious Avery and we continue to pray for her to have no more fever, for the ANC, the least amount of pain possible with the meds she is receiving and that she will be able to get the nutrition her little body needs to strengthen her. I am praying for a miracle for this child. God bless today and all the days ahead.
