Avery had a fairly restful night last night only getting up a couple of times to go to the bathroom. She woke up in a fairly good mood this morning.
Unfortunately, the rest of the day proved to be rough on our sweet girl. She threw up shortly after getting up. We thought it may be because her Zofran lapsed and was due again. We paused her feeds for 30 minutes, gave her Zofran, and then restarted her feeds. She seemed to tolerate this well the rest of the morning.
Etoposide and Cyclophosphamide were her chemos on the schedule for today. She tolerated both with no issues or allergies. The Benadryl they gave her beforehand had her knocked out most of the morning. After she woke from her nap, she threw up again. We paused her feeds for another 30 minutes and then restarted them at half rate. She continued to throw up 4 or 5 additional times over the course of the afternoon. She was such a trooper though. She never once complained and never got a drop of it anywhere besides a bag or bucket. I felt especially terrible having to hold her NG tube against her face to keep it from pushing out while she was getting sick.
They quickly put a plan in place to combat any additional nausea. She now has Benadryl and Reglan scheduled every 6 hours and also Zofran every 12 hours. The downside is that this will having her sleeping a good part of the day, but we would rather see her resting than being sick so much. We have also reduced her feeds down to a very low rate of 10mL. This will allow us to keep something on her stomach, but hopefully not enough to make her sick.
She will continue to receive her anti-nausea meds, fluids, and Mesna(to protect her bladder) overnight. Tomorrow will be a repeat of today chemo wise.
Please pray for:
- Nausea and vomiting to subside
- No other/new side effects tomorrow
- Swelling(from fluids) in her face to go down
- Continued rest
Continuing to pray for Specific needs. Praying for complete healing! Trusting you get some rest as well.
Continued prayers for all of you. Hope she continues to get some rest.
Praying for this very special child to have no new side effects, that the meds will keep the nausea controlled, for the swelling to go down and for sweet, brave Avery to get some rest and you too Mom!
