Avery battled with some tummy issues most of the morning and decided to skip school. She cleared her Methotrexate levels with a .07, so we were given the green light to go home! We decorated some cookies with Smile-a-Mile, and then she received a dose of Vincristine(chemo). I was able to give her her first injection of the Neupogen while in the hospital. She acted like I was amputating her leg, but afterwards said it only pinched a little. She was so brave having her port de-accessed that we were all surprised! She earned a courage bead for that!
Prior to de-accessing her port(aka removing her noodle), she was presented with her Beads of Courage. Katie, our child life specialist, tallied everything she had done over the past month and gave her special beads for each. She received a bead for every night she stayed in the hospital, every poke or needle, every chemo, every MRI or test, etc. She received over 110 beads. They sent us home with a new card to keep check of the things we have to do at home and each time we go to the hospital which will allow her to accumulate more beads.

She was so excited to leave and was adamant that she pull her own wagon. This was the 2nd wagon we had as we had accumulated a lot of stuff over the past week. She had some nausea in the car, but thank goodness for the hospital barf bags.
We made it home at 4 pm just in time for her sisters to be getting home. They were so excited to see one another! Avery was proud to share the crafts she had made them in the hospital.
The big girls and I rushed to soccer practice at 5. After soccer, we filled the rest of the evening with the normal tasks - dinner, baths, teeth, etc. Avery soaked in the tub for at least an hour! She was so happy to be home!
She was able to eat some pasta for dinner, but that didn't last too long and ended up throwing up. We managed to get her to eat an Electrolyte popsicle before bed though. Hopefully we can keep her nausea under control with the Zofran.
We return to clinic on Monday to have her counts checked, and then again Wednesday to have her last dose of chemo this cycle.
Please continue to pray for:
- Lessened nausea and tummy issues
- Protection from illnesses and germs
- Cooperation with daily injections and other meds
- That we don't wind up back in the hospital before our next cycle begins
God is so good. Avery you are a brave little girl ❤️❤️💙 praying 🙏 for you 🙏
This is wonderful news! I know she is so happy to be home and with her familiar surroundings and family! I hope you all can get some much needed rest, that she can begin to eat again, and all that you listed here is granted by His grace. God is in charge! You are all in my prayers every day!
Glad you made it home. Avery is a brave girl. You and Shon are brave parents! You're present and strong. That matters more than you'll ever know. Prayers for your family will continue. 💕
