Finished with Radiation

Writer: Lori Beth RicheyLori Beth Richey

Monday, December 14th

Avery completed her 28th and final radiation session last Thursday! She got to ring the gong signifying the end of that journey, and she was so proud! She chose to celebrate with potato soup and chocolate cake(both of which she made) and a new oil painting set.

She required a couple of platelet transfusions and a blood transfusion last week, but today she didn't need any transfusions at all! Her WBC is holding fairly well even though we haven't given a Neupogen injection in 3 nights. She is hopefully on the way to count recovery on her own and won't require a stem cell boost. Based on her numbers, we were even able to consolidate her W/F clinic appointments to a single appointment on Thursday this week. She is beyond thrilled to spend less time at the hospital this week. We began weaning her from the steroids, and she should be completely off by the end of the week which will have her taking no medicines on a regular basis(praise)!

Avery has been feeling great lately! This is the best we have seen her feel in a very long time, and we are cherishing this time! She has been busy doing art projects, school work, and hiking. We pray this energy continues through the holidays, and she has a great month before starting chemo again!

Please continue to pray for Avery's upcoming scans on January 4th. As you pray for Avery please also remember all of our friends(kids and adults) fighting this horrible disease, along with the families who will spend Christmas without their loved ones.

Thank you all again for the love and support you have shown us through our journey! We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a blessed and safe New Year!
