Improved Scans

Monday, January 4th

We made it to the hospital by 7:15 in preparation for scans this morning. We were taken back almost immediately and triaged. Unfortunately the case before us took longer than expected, so it was right after 10am before Avery's scans began. She was so patient waiting and was even smiling and laughing as Ms. Ashley (her nurse) carried her back to be sedated.

She had a very rough time waking up from the anesthesia. I could hear the screams before I even made it back to the recovery room. I immediately scooped her up which usually calms her... only this time it didn't. Our poor recovery nurse worked so hard to help how she could while also recognizing when not to interfere... she was an absolute saint. It took nearly half an hour before I could get Avery dressed enough to be able to leave. Thank goodness for wagons and blankets! She fell back asleep in the car and didn't wake up until 4:30 this afternoon.

We finally received a call with her scan results around 4:15, and they were much improved! Much of the disease had disappeared and the disease that was left had reduced in size. The term "significant interval decrease" was used. This was the best news we could have possibly hoped for! We will be able to tell more when we get to see the images in clinic on Wednesday. It's hard to believe that just 3 months ago we didn't know if they would be to get her disease under control due to the extent of spread. We truly didn't even know with certainty if Avery would still be with us, yet here she is thriving and showing cancer who is boss! We are praising God for this Miracle He has provided Avery! We are grateful to be going into her next phase of treatment with a giant step taken towards healing.

- That she is able to tolerate the next phase of treatment without delays

- Protection from illnesses and infections
