Neutropenic Day 12

Monday, September 14th

Avery was in a little bit more pain right before bedtime last night. They gave her a dose of meds for breakthrough pain which helped ease the pain and allow her to fall asleep. She was able to rest last night. Despite doctors coming in at 6:30am, 7am, 7:30 am, and 10:30am, she managed to sleep until nearly noon today.

Her platelets and hemoglobin numbers were good, so no transfusions were needed. Her ANC had risen to 100. Her sodium was at 137 so we will continue with 3 times a day supplements.

Overall, she had a decent day. She vomited twice and is still in some pain, but we are able to keep everything under control with medication. She made another batch of slime and a bracelet today. She is slowly starting to do a little more each day. She still hasn't gotten out of bed yet, but we are hopeful that time will come soon.

The tumor board was meeting this afternoon to review Avery's case and most recent scans. We are expecting to hear a recommendation from them tomorrow regarding which step we take next in treatment. It's a very delicate decision determining what comes next. If we move to radiation, we want to ensure that the disease has shrunk enough to be able to give a curative dose. If we do another round of chemo, we need to ensure that Avery's body can handle the toxicity and is able to recover quickly enough.
