Neutropenic Day 13

Writer: Lori Beth RicheyLori Beth Richey

Tuesday, September 15th

Avery woke shortly before midnight crying out in pain. It was time for her scheduled pain medicine, so she quickly calmed and was able to fall back asleep after that. The rest of the night was uneventful, and she was able to rest.

She didn't require any transfusions today, and her ANC had increased to 330. There were no new changes made today.

Avery was in an ok mood this morning. She mostly played the iPad and kept to herself. She begrudgingly joined in on a board game with the Physical Therapist, but she ended up enjoying it in the end.

She is still dealing with some stomach cramping, and she has vomited twice today. We are giving her medicine to encourage her to go to the bathroom which will hopefully help alleviate the cramping and nausea.

She fell asleep around 2:30 and slept until 8:30 tonight catching up on some much needed rest. I was worried she would want to stay up all night after such a long nap, but she's about to receive Benadryl since she vomited which will likely put her back to sleep.

We are still waiting to hear from our team regarding next steps. There are a lot of conversations and a lot of people/teams that go into forming these recommendations, but as some one who likes a solid plan(like yesterday), it is wearing on my patience. When we have a plan, we follow the plan day to day and don't typically look much further out. But when you don't have a plan, your mind is left to wander too far into an unknown future which can be both terrifying and heartbreaking.

Please continue to pray for:

- ANC to continue to rise

- Protection from illness and infection

- Wisdom and guidance for the next steps

- Rest

You are looking for answers now, and ready to see her improve. It does seem like she takes three steps forward and two steps back some days. I am grateful to hear her pain is better, and I know that she is so very tired from fighting the pain for those days she did. Sending love and many prayers; I pray for all you asked for and a plan that brings you both back home soon!
