Post-op Day 1

Writer: Lori Beth RicheyLori Beth Richey

Friday, September 18th

Thursday night was rough as expected. Avery was in a lot pain, and the morphine every 2 hours was still not giving her enough relief to rest well. They came back at 3am to get the EKG while she was asleep. As predicted, she didn't even sleep through the first sticker being placed. I had to restrain both of her hands in order to run the test. The initial report indicated she was tachycardic which is to be expected when you are fighting during an EKG, but no other issues or concerns were raised.

It took a while after that incident to get her calmed and back asleep. Then the surgery team came in at 5:30 am to check her incisions. This was also an extremely unwelcome event for Avery. She managed to go back to sleep but woke up at 6:45 ready for the day. She struggled with pain until mid morning when they were able to begin giving her oxy through her g-tube.

Her ANC was 1490 today. We will have to stop the Neupogen(used to boost her ANC) after Monday night in order to start chemo on Wednesday. When we stop the Neupogen though, her ANC usually drops fairly significantly, but we are hoping it will stay high enough to begin this next cycle on time.

After Avery received her morning pain meds, she fell asleep and was finally able to rest for about 6 hrs. She is still sore and trying to move in the bed a little as possible, but the pain doesn't seem nearly as intense as yesterday. They started running Pedialyte through her g-tube and will continue to do so for 24 hrs. She will be able to start feeds again tomorrow afternoon. They will also remove the sutures around her tube tomorrow. If everything stays on course, we should be going home on Sunday.

Please continue to pray for:

- Tolerate feeds

- Pain management

- Rest

- Counts to be high enough to start chemo Wednesday
