Radiation Homestretch

Writer: Lori Beth RicheyLori Beth Richey

Saturday, December 5th

Avery has now completed 25 out of 28 radiation sessions. Her plans were updated from the original to include 22 craniospinal sessions and 6 boosts. Her new ending date is December 9th!

She has been doing so well lately! We were able to reduce her steroids from twice a day to once. She has had no nausea or vomiting or headaches. She completed her 6th and final dose on Vincristine(chemo) this past week, and she has experienced no side effects from it. She has been eating more by mouth(in addition to her gtube feeds), and she is up to 45lbs.

She has enjoyed riding her bike, building Lego sets, doing school work, and getting ready for Christmas!

She is still requiring clinic visits 3 times a week. She is receiving platelets twice a week on average and received a blood transfusion the day before Thanksgiving. We are giving Neupogen injection every other night or every 3rd night(depending on her counts) to keep her WBC count up and reduce the risk of Neutropenia and potential hospitalization.

They will make a decision soon on whether or not to go ahead with the stem cell boost to help her recover more quickly from the radiation. They plan to reduce her platelet threshold(which they feel can be done safely due to the reduction in tumor burden) after this coming week which will hopefully allow us to reduce our clinic visits to twice a week. We will also begin weaning her from the steroids as well.

We are looking forward to a few weeks off from treatment and a less busy schedule before her scans on January 4th!

Please continue to pray for:

- Protection from illness and infection

- Quick count recovery

- Good scans

- Avery to continue to feel so strong

Loving God, we pray that you will comfort Avery in her suffering, lend skill to the hands of her healers, and bless the means used for her cure. Give her such confidence in the power of your grace, that even when she is afraid, she may put her whole trust in you; through our Savior Jesus Christ. Please give her protection from illness and infection, quick count recovery, good scans and Avery to continue to feel VERY strong. In Jesus name we pray! Amen.
