Sunday, August 30th
Saturday night proved to be another rough one. Shortly after Avery fell asleep, she was hit with diarrhea(a common side effect of one of the chemos). We got her settled back to bed, and she was able to sleep a couple of hours before she woke up vomiting. After getting settled from that, her med port popped off her NG extender, pumping feeds into her bed for who knows how long. I had to get her up and changed while the nurse changed the bed. And to add to the chaos, her pumps beeped on and off all night long! This made for a very long night with a very short stint of poor sleep.
They have been able to keep her sodium in check with the oral supplement, so we were released from PICU back to 8QB(oncology floor). The night and past week had finally taken their toll, because Avery slept almost all day including her transport to her new room. One of our favorite nurses was waiting for us when we moved. It was nice to be back in our familiar space which seemed so quiet compared to the PICU. Avery battled diarrhea and vomiting once more this afternoon, but luckily the meds seem to be helping keep it under control.
She finally perked up this evening some. She played the iPad and video chatted with Ella and Lexi. I took off the bandages on her head and stomach with little fuss from her. Then we painted her finger nails and toe nails, and played around with her new hair style.

Tomorrow is our last day of chemo for this cycle. She will receive her Irinotecan inpatient, and then hopefully we will be discharged home to take her final oral chemo tomorrow night. She started her Filgrastim/Neupogen today and will continue to until her counts recover. Thankfully someone took mercy on us and ordered today's dose in the IV version instead of injection. We will have to start giving her the injections as soon as we are home though.
Please continue to pray for:
- The disease to have a significant response to the chemo
- Protection from illnesses and infections
- Healing of her surgical incisions
- Sodium levels to remain stable
- Complete healing
Continued prayers for you all.
