Relapse Cycle 2 - Day 4

Saturday, October 3rd

Avery was able to rest a little bit better on Friday night. She woke up once during vitals, but otherwise did well.

Her sodium levels continue to be stable, so they were able to transfer us back to 8QB(oncology floor) this morning and space out the sodium checks to every 6 hours. Her hemoglobin continued to slowly drop, so she required a blood transfusion today. Her platelets are dropping as well, but it will be tomorrow or the next day before she requires a transfusion for those. She is continuing to deal with stomach cramps, but they do seem to be lessening in intensity and frequency.

You could tell that she wasn't feeling well the majority of the day...she was uncooperative and not playful. Thankfully she perked up enough this evening to want to play with some Legos.

She will go NPO at midnight. They will be taking her down to sedation tomorrow sometime to remove her stitches from her shunt(both on her head and abdomen). The stitches have been in a little over 5 weeks, so they would likely be unpleasant to have removed awake(especially for Avery).

She received day 4 of 5 of her Temozolomide chemo and day 4 of 7 of her Etoposide chemo. She is scheduled to receive a stem cell boost one day later next week to aid in her recovery from this cycle. She had 2 extra bags of stem cells left that were collected in preparation for her bone marrow transplant. She will receive one bag after this cycle of chemo, and she will receive the second bag after she finishes radiation.
