Transplant Day +28

Writer: Lori Beth RicheyLori Beth Richey

Friday, February 21st

Avery had a good night. She was awake on and off between 5am and 6am while she was receiving platelets(due to the extra vitals). I managed to get her back to sleep though, and she slept until 10am.

Her ANC was 3090 today. She received platelets but didn't require a blood transfusion. They changed her Flucanazole from IV to through her tube. She also received her monthly dose of Pentamidine. This will replace her weekend Bactrim and help fight against a certain type of bacterial pneumonia that is common in immunocompromised patients.

We increased her feeds to 30mL per hour, and she has tolerated it well. She vomited once today but it was due to getting upset. Luckily the volume was small and didn't appear to be feeds letting us know that her stomach is emptying as needed. They stopped her TPN and lipids this evening and switched her to D10 fluids. The D10 fluids will help wean her from the high Dextrose concentration she was receiving via TPN without bottoming her sugar out. Hopefully by early next week, she will be off of D10 and on plain IV fluids.

Avery had an audiology appointment this morning as well. She did very well complying with the tests. Unfortunately the test indicated that she had sustained even further hearing loss since the last test on January 15th. We are scheduled to come back to the Outpatient Hearing Center to begin the process for getting fit for hearing aids towards the end of March. Before getting hearing aids, Avery has to be medically cleared by an ENT. They came by today to check her ears, but she has some wax that needs to be removed. They only do that in their clinic or in the operating room under sedation. They are trying to schedule for them to join the others in the OR Monday while she is already under to get everything taken care of.

Please continue to pray for:

- Tolerate nutrition and medicines

- Clean scans

- Rest

I pray for Avery’s need to be met. I know she is excited at the idea of going home. I pray that will happen as planned without any setbacks.

So very thankful for these encouraging reports. Answered prayers. This child has endured more these past six months than most people face in a lifetime and she still has that beautiful smile. Prayers for clear scans, tolerate meds and nutrition and rest for all. Prayers continue for complete healing for this precious angel!
