Transplant Day +31

Writer: Lori Beth RicheyLori Beth Richey

Monday, February 24th

Avery had a long day which started with a platelet transfusion at 2am this morning. She was really restless with all of the vitals. She managed to sleep until close to 9 which allowed her to catch up on the sleep she lost in the middle of the night. Her ANC was 1330 today, and she didn't require a red blood cell transfusion.

We played and hung out all morning waiting for them to come get us for scans and surgery. They finally came around 12:45 to take us down, and they took Avery back right at 1:15pm. I had to pry her arms from around my neck and hand her off to be taken back for what always seems like the longest hours of our lives.

Once she was asleep, they accessed her port, did her MRIs, removed her central line, did a Lumbar Puncture, cleaned and examined her ears, and pulled her tooth(bonus!). Her tooth was about to fall out, so they pulled it as to not knock it out when they were inserting the breathing tube. At 3:50, they called us to a consult room to talk with the Dr, but the Dr never came. We sat there for over an hour waiting and wondering. Luckily our NP came by to let us know that she was finished with the LP and confirm that Avery was in recovery. We made it back to our room around 5:30 without ever hearing from the surgeon. She was in quite the mood when she woke up. She ripped off the hospital gown(she doesn't like them) in the hall while I was getting her out of the bed to move her into the room. Luckily after a couple of hours, she was pretty much back to her normal self.

She caught her second wind about 8:30, so we worked on a Lego set and played Tag with Ryan. We placed her tooth under her pillow, and she finally fell asleep around 10:45.

Unfortunately due to how late her scans ended and the fact that our oncologist was out of town, we didn't receive any results tonight. Hopefully we should get results tomorrow, and we are praying it is all good news. The wait is pure torture, but unfortunately we can't do anything about it.

Please continue to pray for:

- Clean scans & LP

- Tolerate nutrition and medicines

- Rest

Praying for clean scans, much needed rest , and an apology or at least an acknowledgement from the no show surgeon. Praying as you wait for results.

My heart is with you always but especially tonight as you wait for results. Waiting is Not easy. I'm quite miffed that the surgeon never came to see you!!? Actually, I'm MORE than a little miffed. Unless someone else needed him in a life and death situation, he doesn't have an excuse. Surgeons as a whole very often have a god complex that for me is unacceptable. You get rest and I'll be your MAD for tonight. Love you Lori Beth. PS I don't comment on every post but I read EVERY post and pray accordingly.
