Avery had a rough night last night. Shortly after midnight, she spiked a temp of 100.5. They drew blood cultures and started her on Cefapime(antibiotic). She vomited at 1:15am, 3am, and 3:30am. She received Benadryl and Ativan to help combat the sickness. Since she was already awake, we gave her 4 o'clock bath a little early. She was back asleep by 4:15 or so. I hoped that she could sleep in until her 10am bath, but she woke up at 7:30 vomiting again. They decided to start her on a Benadryl/Ativan drip to control the nausea. Before they could even get it started though, she had gotten sick enough additional times that they decided to increase the rate of the drip. Avery got sick a total of 12 times today with the first 8 being between 1am and noon.

She received her Thiotepa and Etoposide as planned with no issues while getting the chemo. The poor night of sleep finally got to her, and she napped for a good long while this afternoon. She had to be woken up from nap for her 4pm bath. She spiked another temp of 100.6, so they have started her on Vancomycin(antibiotic) as well.
Due to some electrolyte imbalance and her inability to keep anything down, they have started her on TPN(Total Parenteral Nutrition). TPN is the term used for infusing a specialized form of food through a vein(intravenously). It provides liquid nutrients, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and electrolytes. She will likely be on TPN for a few weeks. One of the negatives of it though is that it is very hard on the liver(and her liver enzymes are already elevated from the chemo).
Despite the mostly rough day, she did have some fun playing games and building with Legos with Shon this afternoon/night. We are thankful for those times especially when they begin to get few and far between. She continued to rock her vitals and mouth care and is just days away from earning a big prize.
Tomorrow is her last day of chemo which will once again consist of Thiotepa and Etoposide. Then, she will receive 2 days of rest prior to transplant.
Please continue to pray for:
- No more nausea or vomiting
- No burns or skin irritation
- That she will tolerate the baths and dressing changes(5 down only 7 more to go)
- Rest
- Protection of her liver and kidneys
Continued prayers for all of you. 💕🙏
I'm up at 1:49am feeling sad because of having to put my sweet pup down less than 8 hours ago but thankful to be here to read this so that I can pray for your girl. And for you. Oh how tired you must be, Mom. Praying that today is a much, much better day for Avery and that this last day of chemo will be kind to her. Hoping you are both getting much needed sleep right now as you prepare to face another day.
Prayers for Avery.
