We are just a couple of days past 2 months post transplant, and tomorrow marks 4 weeks since we have been home from the hospital! Avery continues to make great strides in her recovery everyday.
Last week she finally found the one thing worth wearing a mask for... Basketball! Every sunny day since, she has loved going out to the driveway to play basketball, hula hoop, and ride her scooter. She asks to go outside every chance she gets!

We went to the hospital Tuesday for clinic. Her hemoglobin had risen to 9.1, and her platelets had risen to 79. Her ANC had dropped to 950. The only thing she had to receive was her monthly Pentamidine(to prevent PCP pneumonia). They give her IV Zofran prior, but she is still really nausea the entire hour that the medicine runs. As soon as it stops, the nausea goes away. Once her counts are fully recovered, we can switch back to taking oral Bactrim on the weekends.
We are scheduled to go back to clinic next Friday(April 3rd). If her ANC has risen and stabilized by then, we should be able to stay home for a while until the COVID-19 pandemic has subsided some. They reminded us that at this time the hospital was not a safe place for an immuno-compromised child(unless absolutely necessary), so the less we can come, the better. The hospital and staff are all doing a tremendous job and taking every possible precaution to protect its patients and their families.
I know it is a scary and stressful time for everyone right. Our feet are being held to the fire, and we all have two choices on how to respond:
Save yourself but sacrifice those around you
Band together to put out the flames
I hope that we will all make the socially and morally responsible decision to stop the fire before we all get burned.
Please continue to pray for:
- Complete healing and recovery for Avery
- Healing and protection for all of our friends still fighting the battle
- All of the healthcare workers and first responders
This is good news! Prayers answered, and I am happy to hear she is enjoying being home and able to play outside!!! I do send love and prayers for all on your list, and for your family's safety during this virus!!
Glad that Avery is continuing to do well in her recovery. This is a scary time for all of us. Praying that Avery continues to grow stronger. Glad she had nice weather to be outside. ❤️❤️❤️
She is obviously feeling the warmth of God’s smile!
This is awesome! Just seeing that sweet pic of her does my heart good. Prayers continue!
MyTinker, I am so proud of your progress. Keep it up. Love you a house full.
