Transplant Day -7

Writer: Lori Beth RicheyLori Beth Richey

Friday, January 17th

Overall , Avery had a pretty good night. She had one episode during midnight vitals where she got extremely upset and was kicking, hitting, and screaming, but she wasn't fully awake/conscious during that time. It may have been due to some of her nightly meds. She quickly settled down though and slept until 11am this morning. By the time she woke up, she was half way done with her chemo(Carboplatin) for the day. Other than feeling a little groggy when she first got up, she has felt exceptionally well today.

She did great today with all of her vitals and did all of her mouth care on her own. She has been counting down the hours until 8pm when she earned her daily prize from Shon and I. She is also working to earn a bigger prize from her Child Life Specialist. Avery has been given 3 main jobs to do each day. If she does those jobs willingly and without any fight, she earns letters for a board they created. Once she spells "The Incredibles", she earns a large prize. Last time, she earned a 300+ piece Beauty and the Beast Lego set. This has given her short term and long term incentives to work towards which helps her be more compliant and makes things easier on all of us.

Her ANC had dropped to 790 this morning, but the rest of her labs still look good. We are very thankful that Avery has felt so well the past two days. We know this feeling is short lived, and things are about to get much worse before they get better. We plan to have as restful of a weekend as possible. She will receive Carboplatin once again tomorrow, and then Sunday she will start a new regimen of drugs for the remaining 3 days.

Please continue to pray for:

- No nausea and vomiting

- No additional hearing loss

- Protection from infection as her immune system is dwindling

- A restful weekend for us all

God bless you all as Avery begins this stage of treatment. I pray all goes well and there will be no harmful side affects from the strong meds she will be receiving. Please God protect this child from the harmful effects of the meds. Wrap your arms around her and give her rest and her family as well. We pray believing for a miracle of healing for this child.
