Friday, April 3rd
We enjoyed a longer break between clinic appointments and have been taking advantage of this beautiful weather! Avery has been working on her scooter, basketball, and hula hoop skills.
We had to be at clinic at 8 this morning. As soon as we walked in the hospital, we were stopped for a temperature check and health questionnaire before we could proceed. All of Avery's labs looked great. Her platelets and hemoglobin are holding their own and starting to gradually increase each visit. Her ANC was 960 which was up just slightly from last week. They are not giving her anything to boost her ANC as it seems to have settled around this level. With time, it should slowly start increasing on its own.
Due to the recent recall and halt of production of Zantac, we are able to mark one of the daily meds off of her list. We are down to the Acylovir twice a day and Fluconazole once a day. Hopefully in another 1-2 months, she will be able to stop those as well.
She continues to tolerate her feeds well and is eating a couple of bites of dinner most nights. She has surpassed her pre-diagnosis weight and is now weighing in at 50lbs and 45 inches tall.
Avery is starting to get a little bit of peach fuzz on her head. When I told her that her hair was starting to grow back, the first thing she said was "I hope I don't grow bangs!" A strange side effect of the transplant is that new finger nails are growing causing the old ones to fall off. Luckily, they are almost fully grown in as to not be too painful, but it still makes me cringe when she pulls them off.
We don't have to go back to clinic again until April 21st. We are getting super close to being released from BMT and back to our neuro-onc team. This will be bittersweet as I can't help but feel more "protected" with the BMT protocols. The clinic is on an inpatient floor, so there is no waiting room we have to sit it. Also, should Avery run a fever, we get to skip the ER and go directly to BMT clinic. On the positive side of things, being released back to our regular(but phenomenal) team means that she is recovering and slightly lower risk.

Please continue to pray for protection and healing for Avery!
Praying for Ms. Avery! God please give her the strength for treatment, the courage to withstand what she has to endure, to know the love that surrounds her and the patience until she is well. Avery, you are a beautiful soul. Bless you sweet angel! Belinda Cox
